Vimy Ridge School Lacrosse Program

In the unique setting of Edmonton’s Re/Max baseball field, 1969 Blues team members Russ McFall, Bill Tayler, Ron Mussieux, and Blake Christopherson met with students from the Vimy Ridge School Lacrosse Program. The program has both junior and senior high school divisions with about 70 students in total. The students were divided into the two groups with each taking a turn on the field while the other attended a sports psychology session inside. Although not all the students had a chance to see the documentary, the Blues did a great job of sharing their insights about their experiences as Blues lacrosse players.

Students also shared their stories on how they were introduced to the game. There were a number of highly skilled players in attendance who are heading to the U.S. on lacrosse scholarships. What was also very apparent was Vimy Ridge’s success in attracting girls to the program where they play both field and box.

Sarah Lehman, Jimmy Quinlan, and the other support staff of the program have a very high regard for our story and the importance of their students knowing how the game started in Edmonton. The program looks to be well supported with a strong and committed staff.

It was a chilly day on the field but worth every moment. The best part was just throwing the ball around with students and sharing our love of the game.

Thanks to Russ, Bill, Ron, and Blake. Bill was the lucky recipient of a lacrosse stick given to him by one of the Vimy Ridge staff members. The generosity of the staff and their own respect for our visit was greatly appreciated.

So Blues, mission accomplished. Well done!
