Thanks to everyone who attended the North Glenora Blues 60th Anniversary celebration on Saturday. We had a very good turnout with players from a number of different Blues teams throughout the early years of the organization. While there were many familiar faces, we had the great pleasure of reconnecting with former Blues who hadn’t previously been in touch but who are now part of our email list.
Bob Johnston did an excellent job of serving as our host. Bob highlighted a number of accomplishments of the Blues organization. It was mentioned how the Blues success came through a community league-based program with perhaps 120 players at its peak.
Cheryl Whitelaw is the past president of North Glenora. She eloquently explained the importance of the Blues’ story in the context of the community league today. Cheryl appreciated the connections she could see among the players and the importance of the relationships.
Captain Doug Parsons spoke on behalf of all the players. Many of us, like Doug, played multiple roles in the game. Not only players but coaches, referees, and lacrosse administrators. It was very much part of the culture that John Tayler developed right from the beginning.
As part of the celebration, the seven Blues players from the 1969 Canada Games team in attendance had the chance to be the first to sign the commemorative poster that will be on display at future Blues events including Bonnie Night on October 2.
Few sports organizations can celebrate an enduring legacy like the North Glenora Blues. Congratulations to everyone connected with the organization past and present.
